Merry Christmas! At least, I hope it was a Merry Christmas for you and your family. We had a great day! Of course, it started at 4:42 a.m.
Yep, that’s right.
Who’s tapping?
Tap, tap, tap. Pause. Tap, tap, tap. “What is that annoying tapping?” my unconscious mind thinks groggily. Is that part of my dream? No, someone is, in fact, tap, tap, tapping on my arm. I grudgingly roll over to see who in the world could possibly be tapping on my arm in the middle of the night.
Now, had I been more awake, I would have had one of two reactions: (1) I would have been totally freaked out that someone – anyone – was tapping on my arm at 4:42 a.m. or (2) I would have realized that it could be only one person: my munchkin.
I finally manage to pry my eyes open enough to see two huge eyeballs staring straight back at me, and someone starts whispering, “Mommy? Can we go downstairs to see if Santa’s come yet?” Are you kidding me? It’s 4:30 in the morning!!!
Instead, I reply with, “Not yet, honey. It’s the middle of the night. Let’s go back to bed.” Ten minutes later: tap, tap, tap. “Hi, guy. How about you crawl in bed with us until it’s time, ‘kay?”
Santa’s Here!
At 7:30 a.m. we finally stumble down the stairs to see what fantastic surprises await us from Santa. As the munchkin’s making his way through the gifts, he finally decides to open the one from Mommy and Daddy.
As the wrapping paper comes off, my hubby shouts out, “Wow! That’s awesome!” to the extreme confusion of my five-year-old, who responds with, “Daddy, didn’t you help mommy choose this toy?” In other words, why was he so excited about something he supposedly helped me pick out.
As I stifle my laugh – my hubby was nowhere around when I did the Christmas shopping; in fact, he was out of the state – my husband quickly recovers, saying, “Well, yeah, but…it’s still cool! Don’t ya think?” Nice one. A narrow miss, but adeptly sidestepped.
Evidently, the little guy’s more perceptive than we gave him credit for – even when it comes to Christmas presents! We’ll have to be more careful in the future. :0)
By the way, the piano playing Christmas day went well! Have a great week all, and I’d love to hear what mishaps, bloopers and crazy happenings you encountered this year during the holidays.
